About Ben Lowers

Ben Lowers is a lifelong Clinton and DeWitt County resident and a dedicated public servant with nearly three decades of experience in law enforcement. He began his career in 1996 with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and joined the Clinton Police Department in 2001. Over his time with the department, Ben advanced through a variety of roles and was named Chief of Police in 2013.

Throughout his career, Ben has worked across the three core areas overseen by the Sheriff’s Office — 911 telecommunications, county corrections, and sworn field operations — giving him a broad, practical perspective on county-wide public safety. Under his leadership in Clinton, the department emphasized community policing, youth engagement, and professional development while pursuing grants and other tools to reduce the burden on local taxpayers.

Ben believes today’s public-safety challenges require both strength and compassion. That means protecting residents and holding offenders accountable — and also expanding mental-health crisis response, and supporting recovery programs for substance-use issues that drive repeat harm. Locally, Ben is recognized for his steady presence at community events, his work with veterans and seniors, and his habit of hearing directly from neighbors across the county.

Ben is seeking the Republican nomination for DeWitt County Sheriff in the Primary Election on March 17, 2026. He’s running to enhance countywide engagement, deliver accountable stewardship of resources, and build public-safety solutions that keep DeWitt County families safe.
