About ben

Ben Lowers is a lifelong Clinton and DeWitt County resident and a dedicated public servant with nearly three decades of experience in law enforcement. He began his career in 1996 with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and joined the Clinton Police Department in 2001. Over his time with the department Ben advanced through a variety of roles and was named Chief of Police in 2013.

Throughout his career Ben has worked across the three core areas overseen by the Sheriff’s Office — 911 telecommunications, county corrections, and sworn field operations — giving him a broad, practical perspective on county-wide public safety. Under his leadership in Clinton, the department emphasized community policing, youth engagement, and professional development while pursuing grants and other tools to reduce the burden on local taxpayers.

What I Will Fight For

Mental-Health Crisis Response

Public safety must include smart mental-health interventions. Ben supports expanded training for deputies, and stronger partnerships with local providers to keep crises from becoming tragedies.

Protecting the Second Amendment

Ben Lowers proudly defends the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. At the same time, he supports targeted measures that keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and people in crisis — because rights and public safety must go hand in hand.

Community Policing

Ben believes policing works best when officers know the people they serve. He will expand countywide engagement, strengthen school and youth outreach, and encourage problem-solving partnerships with residents.

Substance-Use & Recovery

Enforcement alone won’t solve addiction. Ben favors treatment-first pathways where appropriate, linkages to recovery services, and programs that reduce repeat offenses while holding dangerous offenders accountable.

Veterans & Seniors

Ben will continue outreach and support for veterans and seniors — from home visits to coordinated services — ensuring dignity and access to the programs they’ve earned.

Recruitment & Retention

To serve effectively, the Sheriff’s Office must attract and keep qualified deputies. Ben will support training, career development, and fiscally responsible compensation strategies to build a professional, stable team.
